Marvel Studios is reportedly reconsidering bringing back Jonathan Majors to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), despite his past legal issues. Majors, who played Kang the Conqueror, was initially set up as the franchise’s next major villain after Thanos. His character was expected to play a crucial role in upcoming films such as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
However, in December 2023, Marvel cut ties with Majors following his conviction on two misdemeanor charges related to a March 2023 incident involving his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. As a result, he was removed from multiple projects, and in April 2024, he was ordered to complete a 52-week in-person domestic violence intervention program.
Despite this, sources suggest that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is considering having Majors return in some capacity. The plan would reportedly involve him reprising his role in a future project to resolve lingering plot threads involving Kang. This comes after Marvel shifted gears and restructured its cinematic plans, transforming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty into Avengers: Doomsday. The new film will introduce Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, marking a major shift in the franchise’s storyline.

Kang the Conqueror, a time-traveling and multiverse-spanning villain, had already been teased in the Disney+ series Loki and played a key role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Given his importance to the overarching narrative, Marvel may be seeking a way to tie up his storyline rather than abandoning it altogether.
Meanwhile, Majors is preparing for his return to the big screen with the upcoming film Magazine Dreams, which faced delays due to his legal troubles. He is also attached to star in Martin Villeneuve’s Merciless. Regardless of Marvel’s decision, it’s clear that Majors’ career remains active.
Whether or not Marvel moves forward with his return, the discussion surrounding Majors and the future of Kang continues to stir debate among fans and industry insiders alike.
