Rob Liefeld Calls Out Marvel Studios Over Treatment towards Creators

astonishingnewsand

The creator of Deadpool, Rob Liefeld, has recently spoken out about his frustrations with Marvel Studios and its president, Kevin Feige. In a candid discussion, Liefeld revealed that he felt sidelined during the premiere of "Deadpool & Wolverine." Despite his contributions to the character’s creation, he and his family were not invited to the film’s post-premiere celebration. Adding to his frustration, he later discovered that images of him with the film’s creative team had been removed from public view. Liefeld interpreted these actions as an intentional effort to diminish his role in Deadpool’s legacy.

Liefeld expressed his frustration in an email, stating that Marvel has never excelled in how they treat creators. He emphasized that without the worlds, characters, and ideas that creators bring to life—specifically in this case, the universe of Deadpool—there would be no films to produce or major blockbusters to release. He made it clear that he is not just a convenient tool, but the creative force behind it all.

Additionally, he pointed out the stark contrast in how other creators, such as Roy Thomas (credited for Wolverine), received more substantial recognition. Liefeld criticized Feige’s handling of comic book creators, stating that in his experience, Marvel’s leadership does not give them the respect they deserve. He hopes that this issue will be addressed and that future collaborations will be more inclusive of those who helped bring these iconic characters to life.
