Lilo & Stitch Live-Action Trailer: A Nostalgic Dive into 'Ohana and Chaos"

Disney has finally unveiled a sneak peek of its highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch, set to premiere on May 23, 2025. The brief teaser introduces fans to the beloved chaos of Stitch, the mischievous alien who crashes into the lives of Lilo and her family.

The teaser kicks off with Stitch adorably demolishing a sandcastle modeled after Disney's classic castle logo—a cheeky nod to the original film's playful spirit. The CGI-rendered Stitch promises to retain his quirky, chaotic energy while embracing the visual updates of a live-action format.

Fresh Faces and Familiar Voices

Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, known for the indie gem Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, the film brings together an exciting cast. Newcomer Maia Kealoha stars as Lilo Pelekai, the spirited Hawaiian girl whose bond with Stitch forms the heart of the story. Longtime fans will be thrilled to know that Chris Sanders, who originally voiced Stitch and co-created the 2002 animated classic, is reprising his role for this adaptation.

The supporting cast is equally impressive. Sydney Agudong steps into the role of Nani, Lilo’s fiercely protective older sister, while Kaipo Dudoit plays David Kawena, Nani’s loyal love interest. Zach Galifianakis takes on the role of Dr. Jumba Jookiba, the eccentric scientist behind Stitch's creation, with Billy Magnussen as the lovable Agent Pleakley. Courtney B. Vance brings depth to Cobra Bubbles, the enigmatic social worker tasked with assessing Lilo’s home life.

A delightful surprise for fans of the original, Tia Carrere, the voice of Nani in the 2002 film, returns to the franchise as a new character, Mrs. Kekoa. Amy Hill, who voiced Mrs. Hasagawa, also makes an appearance as Tūtū, ensuring a nostalgic connection for longtime viewers.

Themes That Transcend Time

The story remains rooted in its original themes of family and belonging. Lilo’s unwavering belief in the Hawaiian concept of 'ohana—which means "family" and underscores that no one is left behind—guides her friendship with Stitch, even as alien pursuers and social challenges arise.

Capturing the Magic of Hawaii

Filming wrapped earlier this year in Hawaii, ensuring the lush landscapes and vibrant culture central to the story are authentically portrayed. The creative team aims to honor the heart of the original film while presenting it through a fresh, visually immersive lens.

As the release date approaches, audiences anticipate a film that honors the original's legacy while offering a new perspective on the beloved story of friendship and family.
