Pamela Hayden Retires: The End of an Era for Milhouse on The Simpsons


After 35 years of bringing life to some of Springfield's most memorable characters, Pamela Hayden, the voice behind Milhouse Van Houten, has announced her retirement from "The Simpsons." Her final performance is set to air on November 24, 2024, in the episode titled "Treehouse of Horror Presents: Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes."


Hayden's tenure on the show began with its inception in 1989. Beyond voicing Milhouse, she portrayed characters such as Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders, and Janey Powell. Reflecting on her departure, Hayden expressed, "It's been an honor and a joy to have worked on such a funny, witty, and groundbreaking show."



Series creator Matt Groening lauded her contributions, stating, "Pamela gave us tons of laughs with Milhouse... She made Milhouse hilarious and real, and we will miss her." Executive producer James L. Brooks added, "She is a model for having a great spirit for every cast ...



The character of Milhouse, known for his endearing naivety and unwavering loyalty to Bart Simpson, first appeared in a 1989 Butterfinger commercial before becoming a staple in the series. As Hayden steps away, the show's producers have indicated that casting for her characters will commence soon.
